What is teora® mind?
teora® mind is VR therapy software for everyday cognitive training in inpatient therapy and aftercare at home. Strokes, epilepsy, traumatic brain injuries, or other neurological disorders often affect cognitive performance. Increasing forgetfulness and problems with concentration and attention make everyday life a challenge. Familiar activities that were previously taken for granted are now difficult and sometimes impossible. This is where reality-based cognitive training becomes necessary.
teora® mind helps affected individuals to train these specific skills in a targeted manner.
The cognitive training programs commonly used today focus on abstract exercises, such as memorizing license plate numbers. Affected individuals often find it difficult to apply these one-sided tasks to the complex problems of everyday life. They are far too removed from reality.
teora® mind is based on everyday exercises in which patients train for real-life situations. The tasks are based on Activities of Daily Living (ADL), such as the entire process of making coffee. This allows users to practice the skills they need to become more independent again in a risk-free environment and as often as they like.
Virtual reality technology allows us to create an immersive therapy environment. It gives users the feeling that they actually are in the virtual environment and that it is real. This facilitates learning transfer and allows users to apply what they have learned to their everyday lives. After training with teora® mind, when I want to make coffee in my own kitchen, the steps I take to make a cup of coffee are just about the same as in virtual reality.
Our therapy software is based on the principle of neural plasticity. Because our brain remains capable of learning throughout our entire lives.
teora® mind is the first and only certified class IIa medical device in the EU in accordance with the MDR that is used to treat cognitive deficits in neurotherapy. (As of March 2026)
Based on this certification, we bear the CE mark in accordance with EU Directive 2017/745 (MDR) and have introduced a certified quality management system to ensure high standards of safety and quality.

Who is teora® mind for?
teora® mind is used for people whose independence, self-determination, or ability to manage daily life is significantly limited due to cognitive deficits. These cognitive limitations are associated with conditions that affect the nervous system. These may include, for example, strokes, Parkinson’s disease, mild cognitive impairment, or traumatic brain injuries.
All scenarios have been designed to cover a wide range of difficulty, from very easy to very difficult, and can be adapted to the individual needs of the person affected.
teora® mind is scientifically proven & significantly outperforms the established standard therapy
The therapeutic application teora® mind is based on current scientific research findings and was developed in close collaboration with medical professionals and patients. This ensures that the application is both scientifically sound and practical.
In addition, we are investigating the use of virtual reality in our own studies. We have already found that virtual reality is well accepted by older adults in general, and by stroke patients in particular, even without prior exposure to virtual reality.
Furthermore, the effectiveness of teora® mind was compared to standard treatment in a published randomized controlled trial. After 4-6 weeks, the VR group achieved significant improvements in planning and problem-solving. The results also indicated benefits of VR-based therapy in other functional areas: In the three additional domains of processing speed, working memory, and subjective health perception, the VR group showed consistently positive developments, while the effects in the control group were significantly smaller (Specht et al., 2023, JMIR Serious Games).
